Surgical sperm retrieval may be a treatment option for men with :
- An obstruction preventing sperm release, due to an injury or infection
- Congenital absence of the vas
- Non -obstructive azoospermia
Surgical sperm retrieval is carried out by Uroandrologist who works in close association with the fertility unit and the procedure is timed to coincide with the female partner's egg collection.
Today majority of surgical sperm retrieval is done by using fine needles & rarely an open testicular biopsy is required.
